monsoon wedding

i really enjoyed this film more so than the other films that we have watched in class. it really gave a vibrant detailed description of what a true Indian wedding was like. i also really liked it because it wasn't incredibly crazy like a few films we watched in class previously. this film gave us a really good example of how family oriented this culture is. i really liked how they used all of the bright vibrant colors, i feel that this represents happiness which makes sense because of the wedding. i also found it interesting when the father told the event organizer to not use white on the tent because it reminded him of a funeral, that there needed to be a bright colorful happy atmosphere, which really surprised me because here in the states white is considered pure, clean, and happy. the whole marriage process was pretty interesting as well. i kind of knew a little bit about planned marriages but this really cleared up the grey areas for me. another pretty interesting part where the father was upset that his son was a little feminine. the father thought that since the son wasn't manly that he wouldn't be successful and wouldn’t have a high paying job. but in american it really doesn't matter race, sexual preference, gender you have the opportunity to be very successful you just have to put your mind to it. another cool thing that i liked about the film was the music, it was always very up beat and in some parts it was more traditional probably songs that have been passed down from generating to generation, and in other parts it was very modern sounding, almost like techno in a since, that really caught my attention. and hitting back on the arranged marriages i feel that they would be a pretty good idea. i believe it would cut down on our divorce rate, and there would be less spousal abuse. i was also really confused why the wedding planner kept on eating those flowers. at one point in the movie the girl he likes picks one up and eats it too, is this normal for this culture or do they just have a weird fascination with eating random flowers. i also thought it was weird that the wedding planner was so lonely but his family never found him a woman to marry, it was almost like he had to look for himself kind of like here in the states.
